SPF is a very essential part of an everyday skincare routine, but do you already have too many products in your collection? Lately for me, less has been more and I really try to limit the amount of skincare I apply at a time. It has really helped my skin to rotate out my products as I see fit when a particular problem arises, but a must-have every day is SPF and yes, SPF goes on every day you go outside and even in the wintertime.
To help limit the number of products I apply to my face I wanted to incorporate a face moisturizer that also had SPF in since those are always the last two steps in my routine anyway. I’m used to using water-based moisturizers for my face but because my skin has also been getting dryer (or rather dehydrated, there’s a difference!) with age, I wanted to test a couple of what seemed like promising moisturizers.
I decided to test out and compare the Olay Luminous Whip with SPF 25 V.S. Supergoop! Superscreen Daily Moisturizer SPF 40 PA +++. Olay Whip face moisturizer is available for about $38 at most retailers and Supergoop! Superscreen is available for $38 as well, so which is better for the price?
I tested these out for about 2 months, a month for each moisturizer. I went with the Olay luminous because I like to have a naturally healthy glow to my skin instead of appearing matte and it seemed like the finish of that moisturizer would compare to the Supergoop! one the best. After a month of testing the Olay Luminous Whip I found that it had a very strong scent, which I was not a fan of, as well as having a problem absorbing into the skin. Just about every time I used it, it would pill up on my skin later in the day, making it hard to put makeup on top of. Everything else about it seemed to be fine but my biggest problem was that it just would not mix with my skin well. Which seems pretty pointless for a moisturizer if it won’t absorb into the skin.
As for Supergoop!, it had no overpowering scent, it just smelled of sunscreen which I have no problem with since it was unnoticeable after applying anyway. I didn’t have any application problems with this product, it absorbed well and left me with this healthy glow to my skin but without looking greasy. However, on days without makeup, I found that my chin area would become oily a little more than halfway through the day. It did keep the dryer sections of my face moisturized all day though, so I just started lightly powdering my chin area when needed with a light translucent powder.
From my experience the Supergoop! Superscreen Daily Moisturizer SPF 40 preformed leagues better than Olay, mainly because the Olay moisturizer wouldn’t even absorb into my skin. I am always looking for things to try out and compare, so if there is an SPF moisturizer that you like please let me know if there is one you want me to review or just let me know about to keep it on my radar!
